Probably a large number of people on drugs, but why angry men? Are women really never angry or never have a case of road rage? I think your question is very sexist.

  • angela says:

Mental hospitals began closing during the Reagan administration due to extreme budget cuts; mental health care has never really recovered. Prisons are full of people who, with treatment, would never have broken the law in the first place. Thousands of homeless people are mentally ill, and could, with treatment, live productive lives. Unfortunately, most treatments for mental illness are long-term and costly; as with so many other health care problems, it’s a question of money. Meanwhile, the mentally ill go untreated, walking our streets, some of them ticking time bombs.

I talked to a defense attorney last week. He told me that 100% of his clients were under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when they committed their crimes.

Next, you mention the mentally ill. Some recent studies show that exposure to marijuana, especially as an adolescent, leads to later mental illness. One study even says that the children born to people who used marijuana are more likely to suffer from clinical depression as opposed to kids growing up with normal parents.

Until, we can teach people to find away to deal with their problems that doesn’t include drugs or alcohol – we will continue to have these senseless crimes.

I hear what you are saying.

My client is a young girl who killed her Mother when high on drugs.

Every day she says, ” Did I kill my Mother? I couldn’t have killed my Mother. Did I ?”
