Leona Lewis Sings Similar to Who?

Question by Tony B: Leona Lewis sings similar to who?
Hello, my name is Antonio, I’m a record producer and a music lover of extensive degree. Leona Lewis (of American idol) has a magnificent talent! She is a producers dream! But she is not the first of her ilk. Simon accredited her great talent to Britain, and indeed a great talent it is. But America has produced several similar great talents also. One of which is the old Whitney Houston(before her drug addiction). Leona sounds a lot like her. In my professional opinion Leona did a magnificent job on the song written by the great Dolly Parton, “I will always love you” but Whitney most definitely out sang her on that song. But not to worry, Leona Lewis will most certainly soar if she gets the right material, and that’s only one song, she’s likey capable of out doing Whitney on others. But the somewhat bad & inconsistent part of American Idol is that their artist usually sing great classics, wonderful songs that reach down deep and stir the heart. But unfortunately today’s youth are addicted to hip-hop & gangster rap. Not at all that inspirational and produces very few classics (Classics being defined as songs that live forever). As a matter of a fact, the genre of hip hop and gangster rap can barely sustain the careers of most of their artist for more than a few years before they’re old news. Were as in previous times artist made lifetime careers in music. So the reason why most of the young artist do very well on American Idol and don’t do that great in the real world is that in the real world the youths are not are not steered toward deep and inspiring music but mainly beat oriented material unfortunately with lots of profanity. There are reasons for this involves the record labels and the radio stations and their lack of expense, but I will spare you; plus it would take too much space to explain in detail.

Apparently, there is a market for this type of music (classics, etc.) or American Idol would not be so successful, but unfortunately the record labels are not strongly promoting it towards the youths. Basically the music industry is being dominated by a majority of individuals who know very little about music. They can sample an old record, yes – and they can put together beats on a computer. But most don’t know an A from a D to a Cm7 or a G#. So the question lingers, “who is going to write the new inspirational material for these amazing young artist similar to that which they are singing on American Idol?” The type of material than brought them into the light ion the first place. Remember, these are young people that American Idol are displaying, the record labels are going to want to cater them to the youths of the world, which means hip hop, gangster rap and modern R&B, etc…. not “Somewhere over the rainbow.” But enough of that. I just wanted to make a point of why so many come off of American Idol and flop (not all but a lot). But indeed I do think Leona’s talent is reminiscent of the old Whitney (whom I hope will recoup and carry on with her legendary singing). However, Leona Lewis is such a great singer that she will eventually evolve into a class of her own. I’d appreciate your thoughts and input on this subject as a whole.
CORRECTION: LEONA LEWIS WAS “IN X-FACTOR”, NOT “AMERICAN IDOL” but they both have the same format foR the type of music they showcase talent with. Sorry-Thank you.

In an interview with “E! News,” the 65-year-old told David Burtka that his proudest accomplishment in life was not his six Grammy Awards, but getting sober in 1990. “I would not be the person I am today [if I hadn’t]. I wouldn’t have [son] Zachary, I wouldn’t have [husband] David [Furnish]. I wouldn’t have anything. I’d probably be dead,” he says in the on-camera interview. www.huffingtonpost.com
