Overcoming Gambling Addiction

Overcoming Gambling Addiction – This straight-talking, empowering video offers essential information on how problem gambling develops, its damaging impact on individuals and families, and how it can successfully be treated. Through candid first-hand accounts from four recovering gamblers, along with illuminating commentary from mental health experts, the program shows gamblers, their families, and therapists: how an alluring diversion becomes a shameful secret as problem gambling takes hold; common myths and misperceptions about gambling–and why ‘winning big’ is so unlikely; the benefits of individual and and self-help approaches; and ways to overcome setbacks in recovery and make meaningful, lasting changes.

I hated that feeling the next day after payday. I would always tell myself that I was not going to the casino and the first? thing I would do when I woke up was withdraw my money from my account and gamble all of it. Then I would feel like shit the next day. I was at that same treatment facility back in July of 08. Was Katie still a counselor there?

What? really helps you to quit is to know HOW the casino’s can take your money so quickly when you play the slots. Try researching “Server Based Gaming”.

Its clear the way u refer to? proffesional gamblers as ‘shrewdies’,(shrewdy when not plural idiot),that u have probably lost alot and now have a hatred spured by jealousy of winners.

Actually guys in the suits are usually very rich losers. +EV gamblers normaly look like their off to the beach, we have no boss so why would we be? suited up on a blackberry?

If u play no skill games against the casino u deserve to lose, u want easy money for nothing.. im glad these lazy ppl dont get rich..

  • Jessica Guetter says:

I have been to inpatient gambling treatment twice, once when i was 20 years old in 2007 and again back in 2010. There is an awesome inpatient treatment center located in Granite Falls, Minnesota called Project Turnabout (i believe they have a website look it up on google) I? would reccomend that place to anyone who needs the help its a 30 day program is follows the 12 steps of gambling recovery 🙂 Best wishes to all my fellow compulsive gamblers and get well soon!!!!!

  • Jessica Guetter says:

I am a compulsive gambler and have been clean from gambling for 1 month as of today… Tomorrow is payday and it will be the first month of not blowing my whole check in a few hours as soon as i get my hands on the money… I am totally excited to not spend ANY money at the casino my 6 year old son? is overjoyed as well!!!!!! I am only 25 years old and have spent almost $1million dollars in the past 7 years (since the age of 18 because thats the legal age to gamble in Minnesota)

Everyone can win as ther’s a winner in every race and a winner in every roulette spin, WALKING AWAY is the problem, chasing is even more of a problem, you just look at the prices? in the end(mainly favourites) and punt whatever you have left on things that you don’t even fancy.. The buzz/adrenalin, fear whatever you want to call it kicks in bigtime and your mindset is totally wrong and your decision making becomes very clouded, costing you dear in the end..

  • Neo Karn says:

Again, stupid comment. Betting shops exist because most people lose at betting. Simple. That’s why betting shops exist, because the betting shops are well ahead when you take the betting community as a whole. That does not mean you can’t be a winning bettor, it simply shows that most aren’t. There’s no easy? money these days, betting for a living takes a lot of patience, discipline and hard work. It’s not easy money. If you’re after easy money you will indeed fail, like the majority.

  • Neo Karn says:

any = many , control = controlled. Just try not to make blanket statements. Most methods of gambling offer no possible? long-term edge to the punter, only to the house/bookmaker. But there are forms of betting where this is not the case, horse racing, sports betting, poker, can all be manipulated into the punters favor. Games like roulette, craps, slot machines, cannot be made to be profitable long term, on these games you are correct any wins are just temporary, if you keep playing you lose.

  • avidalocan says:

I’ve been one of the? most vocal proponents of the “you can’t win” mantra but it is correct that certain games, by virtue of how they are structured, can provide you with a winning edge over the house. Roulette, pokie or slot machines, craps are some that you can’t gain that edge over. Blackjack is one you can have an edge over, because the next outcome is based on what happened before (finite set of cards). However, most people don’t want to study how to get this edge – they want to win on luck.

  • Neo Karn says:

It annoys me because it is so arrogant for people to make these ridiculous blanket statements without understanding the logistics behind why they lose. Most could never become profitable, because they simply are incapable of exercising the discipline necessary to ever succeed. However this personal weakness is no excuse to make? assertions like ‘no one wins’ ‘you can’t beat the bookie’ etc. It’s tedious and frustrating and is an insult to people like me who make a consistent living at betting.

  • Neo Karn says:

Roulette is a NEGATIVE expectation game… in other words, you can only ever win in the short term.? Long-term the odds are always against you, this is because you only get paid for 36 of 37 possible outcomes. But gambling on things such as poker, horse racing, sports betting etc, it is perfectly possible to get an edge over the bookmaker/opponent. And bookmakers are well aware of this, which is why they consistently ban winning gamblers. But to be successful you must treat it as a business.

  • Neo Karn says:

I must say, what really frustrates me as a professional bettor is these blanket assertions made my gambling addicts. Statements like ‘you? can’t win’ ‘the bookie always wins’, ‘the house always wins’ etc. These are blanket statements and are simply incorrect. The fact is most gamblers do not win because they do not understand the probabilities and mathematics behind the games they play. This is not to say you can win long term at games such as roulette for instance, you can’t, but understand why

  • CatpurrRobertaBobbi says:

You learn that stress and PTSD and OCD is real and about triggers. You may even? stop for months. There is ALWAYS the thought of “just a 20 imagine what could happen”. You get the urge to bet again. If you do it or not in itself is a gamble. Pick one. 1. You need GA again. 2. You give up by yourself again or 3. You try to take your life. THOSE are an addicts only sure bets.
